Our local Caribbean waters that hold the worlds second largest barrier coral reef. The Mesoamerican Barrier Reef stretches from the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula to Honduras. Colorful coral formations filled with vibrant sea life, fish in every size and color and shipwrecks surrounded by rays, all await your adventurous spirit. Our home base of Puerto Morelos has been under National Park protection since 1998 and as a result, the local reefs are very healthy with an abundance of creatures.

In the winter months, we are privileged to scuba dive with the pregnant Bull Sharks that visit Playa del Carmen to wait out the final weeks of their gestation. The summer months is the season when one can snorkel with the largest fish in the sea, the Whale Sharks. These genial giants are incredible to witness, it is a once in a lifetime experience! No matter when you decide to visit, there is plenty to see under the sea.

Cool, clear fresh water Cenotes, the underwater rivers of the Yucatan Peninsula, await to refresh your body and spirit. Flooded limestone caverns where jungle tree roots hang in curtains, stalactites and stalagmites, which formed when the caves were once dry and small fresh water creatures are the beauty of the cenotes. The play of light and water in the jungle setting is a sight not to be missed. Underwater caves excite the imagination and quicken one's pulse. Snorkeling and swimming in the Cenotes allow all types of visitors to enjoy the clear refreshing waters.

The infamous walls of Cozumel are an easy day trip from Puerto Morelos. The visibility in Cozumel is world renowned and worth the effort for the variety of life we encounter. Currents are strong at the wall, so these drift dives can be a challenging adventure!

Ancient Maya ruins offer a glimpse into one of the great civilizations of centuries past. Their vast knowledge of the natural world has not been lost. Quaint pueblos show how the Maya people have kept their colorful culture alive through millennia. Their practice of bush craft, agricultural self sufficiency and cultural interdependence in the community has kept their traditions alive.

Aquanauts Dive Adventures is located in the small fishing village of Puerto Morelos and is considered the gate way of the Riviera Maya, the Caribbean facing coastline of the Yucatan Peninsula. Puerto Morelos has an amazing selection of interesting restaurants and varied cuisine. The atmosphere is relaxed and casual. The cosmopolitan and internationally influenced city of Playa del Carmen is only 30 minutes to the south and the tourist hot spot of Cancun is only 30 minutes to the north.

We at Aquanauts Dive Adventures look forward to your visit and to the pleasure of exceeding your scuba diving expectations.

PADI Open Water Diver certification course
$516.00

The PADI Open Water Diver program gives students the knowledge and skills to dive safely in a variety of underwater conditions. PADI Open Water Diver credentials are recognized all over the world. Students will learn the necessary skills to dive safely within the no stop (no decompression) limits. Open Water divers have the privilege to obtain air fills, purchase scuba equipment and book dive tours. They can even dive to familiar sites with another Open Water Diver as a buddy and without a guide. The minimum age is 10 years old to enroll in this course. Students will plan, conduct and log four open water dives as part of their training.

Ideally, the PADI E-Learning (online theory and exam portion) will be completed before the practical training portion. This is the most efficient option and maximizes the time management of limited vacation days. The practical portion consists of four training sessions, each about 4 hours. Two sessions in the pool and two tours to the coral reef for two tank dives. We customize the course organization to the students comfort level. It can be completed in two full days or can be spread out over three or four days.

Students who have not completed the E-Learning in advance, can anticipate a four full day schedule in the dive shop. The extra time is to accommodate the course videos, quizzes and final exam. The E-Learning or book reading is self study and not included in the practical learning schedule.
